What's shocking?

Laura Bush said that gay marriage is "very, very shocking" to some people.

Given that Laura Bush rarely gets involved in her husband's political controversies, I thought it notable that she would speak up now. She's not shocked at her husband's lack of reflection on executing lots of folks in Texas. She's not shocked at how her husband is corrupting scientific research processes at NIH and EPA in an unprecedented way, to curry favor with religious extremists and polluting industry. She's not shocked that her husband puts out false budget numbers, or misleads the public to take us to war, or that the Bush administration leaked the name of a CIA agent to get back at the agent's husband for speaking out.

Hundreds of families, waiting for hours in the rain in San Francisco to solemnize vows of love and commitment, with the joyous support of their straight and gay neighbors alike-- that shocks Laura Bush?
